95 Points - Jane Faulkner
Long considered one of the shining lights of the Margaret River wine region, the overall quality of wine produced at Leeuwin Estate is at a seemingly all-time high. The wines under Leeuwin's Prelude range continue to impress; delivering wonderful value examples of the region's hero varietals.
The 2022 Leeuwin Estate Prelude Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautifully approachable, elegant style of Margaret River Cabernet. Fragrant and pretty on the nose, the palate has layers of blackcurrant, blueberries and cherry, subtle oak and lively thread of fresh acid throughout. Balanced and poised, this is a sensational Cabernet for the short to medium term.
"95 Points. Just lovely Margaret River cabernet aromas and flavours abound. Textbook stuff, quality wine with the fruit infused with cedary, spicy oak, menthol, a hint of chocolate and bay leaves. It’s flavoursome, fuller bodied but not at all heavy, with an abundance of ripe, supple tannins and fine acidity. All things considered, including the price, this is a steal. 13.5% alc. Screwcap. $34. Drink: 2026 - 2036."- Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion.
"94 Points. A wine that shows the continuing evolution of Margaret River cabernets, and this one, which is sort of the entry-level for Leeuwin as far as cabernet goes, is a cracking good example of the variety and how far it's come in recent years. It was a good season and it's captured here. It's largely cabernet, but a small percentage of malbec has been included. And this always just finishes the wine so perfectly. It's loaded with blackcurrant, dark chocolate, even a little mulberry. There's a brightness and an energy, and there's structure and purpose here, right through to the finish. It's a classy example of Leeuwin cabernet from these southern vineyards. Cellar 10 years. $34"- Ray Jordan, rayjordanwine.com.au.
