In recent times, Atlas has emerged as one of the Clare Valley's most exciting wine producers. The project of Adam Barton and Amy Lane, Atlas consistently deliver impressive examples of Clare Valley's hero varietals.
This 2024 Atlas Grenache is produced from hand-picked grapes from 80-year-old bush vines that grow in terra rossa soil over limestone at a unique site in Leasingham. A wonderful example of what Clare Valley Grenache is capable of, this opens with lifted aromatics of strawberry, violets and cinnamon. The palate is mid weight and juicy with flavours of plush cherry and berry fruits, soft rounded tannins and a lingering savoury finish. A lovely drinking red wine that will offer plenty of joy in the short to medium term.
"94 Points. A pretty, somewhat quiet wine at first swills, yet it unfurls spectacularly with air and feels expansive on the palate. Its tendrils of tannin traverse a canvas of strawberries and just-ripe red plums. It's savoury, too, with some bay, a dusting of clove and some dried herbs. Remarkable staying power on the finish - palate staining, yet light on its feet. Drinkability is the most salient feature here."- Katrina Butler, Halliday Wine Companion.
