"Utterly moreish"- Toni Patterson
A long time former winemaker at Tyrrell's, Andrew Thomas has long been regarded as one of the Hunter Valley's leading winemakers. With a focus on the region's hero varietals; Semillon and Shiraz, Thomas regularly delivers highly acclaimed benchmark examples. The Thomas 'Two Of A Kind' wines are a tribute to the multi regional blends that created some of Australia’s best wines in the 50’s and 60’s.
Produced from a blend of Hunter Valley (58%) and McLaren Vale (42%) Shiraz, the 2023 Thomas Two Of A Kind Shiraz is another super impressive release. Each component plays its part; the Hunter brings its bright blue fruit and spice to the nose, while McLaren Vale delivers darker fruit and fleshy texture. Packed with flavours of dark chocolate, fruit pastilles, ripe boysenberry and red plum, this is a red wine of so much appeal, which offers amazing value at this price.
"A multiregional blend of shiraz from 58/42% Hunter Valley/McLaren Vale, fermented separately and blended after pressing. Maturation in quality barriques for almost two years introduces a gorgeous, subtle, smoky savouriness. The mid-palate offers fabulously supple, velvety-smooth chocolate-coated red fruits and plentiful ripe tannins. Utterly moreish, it strikes a perfect balance between richness and freshness. It's hard to imagine a more serious wine at this price. 93 Points. $25. Drink: 2025 - 2028. Screwcap"- Tomi Paterson, Halliday Wine Companion.
