Ashton Hill's Stephen George in one of Australia's most skilful and versatile winemakers. Making powerful reds at Wendouree, he also produces some beautifully elegant wines at Ashton Hills. While Ashton Hills is best known for its Pinot Noir, they also make some stunning Adelaide Hills Chardonnay.
This 2023 Ashton Hills Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay is a limited release wine from two selected Piccadilly Valley sites in the Adelaide Hills. A delicious cool-climate Chardonnay bursting with vibrant peach, stonefruit and citrus flavours, the quality, well-measured oak plays a mere supporting role.
"93 Points. From a suite of neighbouring vineyards, both growers and some (most) under the care of Ashton Hills. Crisp and bright, lively and fresh, a lighter iteration of the variety but not without mettle of savouriness, textural nuance and impressive length. Offers up scents of green apple, ginger and arrowroot biscuits, lime, woody spices and faint mushroom notes. The palate lines up similar descriptors and delivers light creaminess with some chalky follow-through and a pleasing pink grapefruit twist through the minerally, briny finish. Classy wine from a tricky year. $40. 12% alc. Drink: 2023 - 2032"- Mike Bennie, winecompanion.com.au.
