A standout winery of South Australia's Langhorne Creek, Lake Breeze has drawn plenty of well deserved acclaim of late, including being named 'Best Value Winery' in the 2022 Halliday Wine Companion. A classic Australian blend of Langhorne Creek Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, Lake Breeze 'Bernoota' has long been considered one of Australia's most popular and best value red wines.
The 2021 Lake Breeze Bernoota is a blend of Shiraz (60%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), with grapes carefully selected from old vines on the Follett family vineyard. Matured for 20 months in both American and French oak barriques, this offers impressive fruit intensity, with loads of blackberry, dark plum, licorice with the quality oak playing a nice support role. Another cracking value Bernoota that offers enormous appeal in the short to medium-term.
"94 Points. Nearly 30 years ago, a young bottleshop attendant was asked what he thought was the best value red in Australia. Now, as he poses that question in the national broadsheet, that bottleshop boy realises the answer hasn’t changed. Bernoota fans should chip in some of the money they’ve saved over the years to build a statue in its honour. The very definition of bang for buck. 14.5% abv"- Nick Ryan, The Weekend Australian Magazine, November 13, 2024.
"94 Points. A 60/40% blend ex 40yo vines. A lot of effort went into making this $22 wine. Bravo. Of course, the ’21 vintage played its part. Open-fermented for 8-10 days, finished in American oak; matured 20 months in a wide variety of American and French barriques. The wine is a flood of dark fruit. $22. 14.5% alc. Drink: 2023 - 2031.
