96 Points - Philip Rich
Yarra Yering's Light Dry Red is a compelling 50/50 blend of Yarra Valley Pinot Noir and Shiraz. Winemaking techniques used by the Yarra Yering team are focused on encourage an exotic floral fragrance coupled by an expansive fruitful palate and a fine tannin framework.
A beautiful example of this style, the 2023 Yarra Yering Light Dry Red has gorgeous lifted aromatics with a blue violet lift and summer pudding of mixed berry fruits. The palate has a light touch yet is soft and fruitful, a faintest smoky grip from the use of stalks bringing some structure and drive to the finish. These varieties complement each other beautifully with the perfume, silk and spice of the Pinot sitting comfortably with the underlying structure of the cool climate Shiraz. Another stunning red wine from Yarra Yering that has enormous appeal now and into the future.
"96 Points. This is 50/50% pinot (whole-berry ferment) and shiraz (100% whole bunches) blended prior to bottling. A vibrant crimson/purple. Smells scrumptious! Aromas of red and black fruits, musk, white and black pepper. Floral too. Medium bodied, beautifully balanced and just as delicious on the palate as the bouquet informed me it would be. Drink now and over the next four to five years. Screwcap. 13% alc. Drink: 2024 - 2029. $95"- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion 2025.
"95 Points. The 2023 Light Dry Red Pinot Shiraz leads with raspberry pip, red licorice, pink peppercorns, cherries, Earl Grey tea, blood orange and graphite. The wine is routinely so alluring on the nose, with abundant red fruits that veritably burst forth from the glass. On the palate, the wine shows it is far more complex and serious than the buoyant (almost frivolous!) nose would suggest. Chalky tannins support the lacy-fine fruit and carry it out over the long palate. What a superb wine this is."- Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate.
