97 Points - Philip Rich
Bannockburn Vineyards of Victoria's Geelong region was established by the late Stuart Hooper back in in 1974; his vision was to create a vineyard that would produce Australian wine of a quality to emulate the great wines of France. One of the original varieties planted at Bannockburn's Olive Tree Hill vineyard in 1976; their Riesling continues to express the character and complexity of these unique limestone rich soils.
The 2025 Bannockburn Riesling opens with lively aromas of citrus, musk, lemongrass and white flowers. On the palate the saline quality comes into play, with crisp white pepper and chalky talc characters. Flavours of cucumber in tonic water, slate and stone are also present. A Riesling of rare complexity while maintaining refreshing mouthwatering character, this is sure to further evolve with time in bottle.
"97 Points. Made mainly from 0.4ha of vines planted in 1976. A light, bright green gold. A delicate and complex bouquet of just-picked white peach, grapefruit, lemongrass and flowers. The palate is just as delicate and vibrant, finishing dry and very long. The balance of fruit and acidity is nigh on perfect. A gorgeous wine from go to whoa! $37. 12% alc. Drink: 2025 - 2035. Screwcap"- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion.
”94 Points. A lovely release with floral-edged aromas of citrus blossoms, lemons, white flowers, lanolin and pears. The palate is textural, with great fruit density and vibrant acidity that carries both weight and a mineral-edged backbone without being too broad. Nicely constructed, with a few grams of sugar bringing balance to the acidity. Drink or hold. Screw cap.”- Ryan Montgomery, jamessuckling.com
