95 Points - James Suckling | Last Stocks
Established in 1982, Scotchmans Hill is located in the heart of the Bellarine Peninsula and has long been regarded as one of the region's premier wine producers. A long time favourite of ours, Scotchmans Hill Chardonnay has been in spectacular recent form and this latest release is another super example of Bellarine Chardonnay.
This 2023 Scotchmans Hill Chardonnay is another complex and lively wine showing nectarine and grapefruit aromas rounded out by creamy notes and nutty oak. The palate is fresh with a mineral edge of white peach and grapefruit making way to a savoury mid palate and cashew nut oak finish. There is tremendous drive and structure with this wine which will reward cellaring over the next 6 to 8 years.
"95 Points. Discreet and reserved, with lovely mineral tension giving aromas of lemon confit, flint, grapefruit, apple blossoms and lime leaves. The palate is medium-bodied, with bright acidity and underlying power that will open with time. A saline touch, with plenty of precision."- James Suckling, jamessuckling.com.
"A very bright, deep-ish green gold. A rich and powerful bouquet of ripe peach and apricot together with some attractive orange blossom notes and a little vanillin spice. It's rich in the mouth, but it's also balanced, with a refreshing touch of grip on the long finale. This would handle lobster thermidor or the like with ease! 93 Points. 13% alc. $45. Screwcap. Drink: 2024 - 2028. "- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion.
