New Release | 95 Points - Jane Faulkner
Craiglee is one of the most important historic vineyards in Australia, with vines planted there since 1863. Located in Sunbury, on the outskirts of Melbourne, Craiglee continues to produce some of Australia's finest cool-climate wines under the ownership of Pat and Dianne Carmody.
A product of a cooler vintage, the 2020 Craiglee Shiraz is a beautifully nuanced expression Craiglee Shiraz. An aromatic wine, the nose offers an enticing bouquet of fresh raspberries intertwined with subtle notes of musk lollies, creating a charmingly aromatic profile. The palate offers a nicely rounded entry and mid-palate, showcasing a beautiful balance of red fruit and savoury elements. The tannins are refined and chalky, providing a sophisticated texture that complements the fruit's vibrancy. An impeccably structured Shiraz with a long finish, this is a release that should develop further depth and complexity over time.
"95 Points. Don’t be in a rush to drink this – let it unfurl and allow the heady aromas and flavours to reveal their true colours. Dark, earthy with lots of wood smoke, licorice and new leather, plus no shortage of cedary oak, all in balance though. There are also dark plums, currants with herbs and spices in the Middle Eastern vein. It’s full-bodied, plush with ripe yet firm tannins and it lingers long. $60. 13.5% alc. Drink: 2025 - 2035.
