"If you’re looking for a lot of chocolate on your biscuit, a heap of Shiraz in your glass, then walk this way. It’s potent and packed with black fruit, biscuit spices, chocolate and mint. Full-bodied, plenty of smooth grainy tannin, ample black fruit, something like veal saltimbocca in the savoury department, a lot of oomph, slight warmth from alcohol cuts through, but there’s enough weight here to cover it over, and a big raspberry and herb finish. You’re getting a lot of wine for your money here. 92 Points Tasted: Jun20 14.5% alc. $20 Screwcap Drink: 2020 - 2028+"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
Longhop is the impressive partnership of Domenic Torzi and Tim Freeland. The former Gawler high school mates seized upon an idea in 2002 of salvaging some of the last remaining old vine vineyards in the Adelaide Plains and making icon wines from that region.
Vineyards were secured, old vines a priority. Their small band of growers have embraced the ideal of delivering premium grapes in order to showcase the power and rich fruit flavours the Adelaide Plains and adjoining Mt Lofty Ranges has to offer.
The wines are made with minimal intervention and tradition techniques; open fermented and basket pressed. No fining or filtration is used prior to bottling.
