94 Points - James Halliday
A standout winery of South Australia's Langhorne Creek, Lake Breeze has drawn plenty of well deserved acclaim of late, including being named 'Best Value Winery' in the 2022 Halliday Wine Companion. Lake Breeze Bernoota has long been considered one of Australia's most popular red wines and has a remarkable track record of consistently high quality over the past decade.
The 2021 Lake Breeze ‘Bernoota’ is a blend of Shiraz (60%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), carefully selected from old vines on the Follett family vineyard. Matured for 20 months in both American and French oak barriques, the 2021 Bernoota offers dark fruit characters of blackberry and plums, with a hint of choc mint and smoky oak aromas. The palate encompasses all of the trademark Langhorne Creek fruit sweetness and soft tannins. Although extremely drinkable now, it will mature gracefully for the next 10 years.
"94 Points. A 60/40% blend ex 40yo vines. A lot of effort went into making this $22 wine. Bravo. Of course, the ’21 vintage played its part. Open-fermented for 8-10 days, finished in American oak; matured 20 months in a wide variety of American and French barriques. The wine is a flood of dark fruit. $22. 14.5% alc. Drink: 2023 - 2031.
