Dexter Wines is the personal project of Tod Dexter who has several decades experience in the Mornington Peninsula, most notably as head winemaker at Stoniers and then Yabby Lake. Suffice to say, Tod brings considerable winemaking pedigree to his venture that is reflected in the exceptional quality of the Dexter wines.
The 2024 Dexter Chardonnay is another refined, vibrant Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay that offers up plenty of complex, nutty, white peach flavours with restrained oak playing merely a support role. An outstanding cool-climate Chardonnay that will only bolster the reputation of this producer.
"94 Points. I love how unforced this chardonnay is. I love the way its texture, which is quite plush, feels as though it’s a part of the wine rather than an extra. I also love the fact that flavour-wise we’re in pure stonefruit territory, sans citrus. The oak in play is both creamy and smoky, almost bacon-like, and the finish has a tautness but a slight one. A small firecracker, Tom Thumb-like, goes off on the finish, adding an extra crack of complexities, but again, nothing overt. It’s elegant, generous and honed at once. This vineyard, and winemaker, just keep putting out the hits. Tasted: JUL25. 13% alc. $55. Screwcap. Drink: 2026 - 2032"- Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.
