The Halls Gap vineyard was planted on the steep eastern slopes of the Grampians in 1969. It represented part of the second coming of the Victorian wine industry that had seen very little new plantings since the turn of the century.
A long time grower Seppelts and Penfolds, in the mid 1990's the vineyard was acquired by the famed winemaker, the late, great Trevor Mast, and subsequently became a Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard.
In 2014 it was purchased by Aaron Drummond and his family who re-named the vineyard 'Fallen Giants'; a reference to the dreamtime stories of the original owners of these land, the Djab Wurrung and Jardiwadjali people.
High elevation, old vines and red clay loam soils that date back 380 million years to the Devonian period. As the soils are old and weathered, the vines are naturally low yielding but deliver grapes of incredible quality.
With a focus on the signature varietals of the Grampians region, namely Shiraz, Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon, the wines of Fallen Giants rarely fail to impress and continue to attract plenty of fans.
