The Henschke family have been making wine since Johann Henschke planted his first vineyard in South Australia’s Eden Valley in the early 1860's. Today, fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke and viticulturist wife Prue are recognised around the world for their exceptional quality wines, innovation and sustainability practices in their vineyards.
A blend of Barossa Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro and Viognier, the 2024 Henschke 'Henry's Seven' is again in cracking form offering lifted aromas of plum, red currant and black berry fruits. The round supple palate is filled with juicy blue and red fruits, spiced plum, liquorice and beautifully textured svelte tannins. A high-quality wine from one of Australia's finest red wine makers, this offers super value Barossa drinking.
"93 Points. A blend of Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, with a splash of Viognier: 76%, 16%, 7%, 1%. Roughly half comes from the Barossa Valley, the other from Eden Valley. Cool and suave in the glass, with restrained elegance – raspberry coulis, cassia bark, blood plum, subtle black pepper, and tilled earth. Game meat notes mix with gentle char. The palate carries the same restraint but with juicy fruit weight and velvety texture – blood plum, blackberry, dark cherry, nutmeg, earth, game, and black pepper again. Dark fruit meets a light touch, never descending into heaviness. Approachable tannins tow the finish to good length. The interplay of fruit and savouriness shines, and food would lift the spicy, earthy notes even further. A great offering at $40."- Tom Kline, Winepilot.com.
