95 Points - Marcus Ellis
Based out of the renowned Rayner vineyard in McLaren Vale, Bondar wines has made a big impression on the Australian wine scene. Established by husband and wife duo, Andre Bondar and Selina Kelly in 2012, their commitment to crafting exceptional wines has been widely lauded, including being named James Halliday's 'Best New Winery' back in 2017.
This 2024 Bondar Fiano is a lovely example of the vibrant, personality packed wines Bondar are currently producing. There’s a lovely and fleshy apple-driven nose with some white blossom and a touch of chalkiness. It’s fresh and packed full of bright flavours and pulpy texture, undercut by livewire acidity and gentle grip. It’s made to accompany warm summer nights and smoky barbequed fish.
"95 Points. This comes from two sites owned and farmed by Ben Lacey, in Aldinga and Seaview. Mainly steel. Pressed firmly but with no sulphur, dropping out harsh phenolics and keeping finer ones. The result is a wine of startling clarity and purity, effortless in the way it unfurls pear and lemon notes scented with orchard blossom, soft herbs and sea spray. The palate, too, has this unforced quality, with subtle, thoughtful detail – it’s a Bondar thing. There’s acid tension, texture, ultrafine savoury pithiness and a soaringly long trail of fresh flavour. For me, it’s their best yet. $35. 12.5% alc. Drink: 2024 - 2027.
