Ocean Eight on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula has entrenched itself in the top echelon of Australian Pinot Gris makers with a string a brilliant recent releases.
The 2024 Ocean Eight Pinot Gris is another standout expression crafted by winemaker Mike Aylward. Sourced from estate vineyards in Shoreham and Red Hill, the nose delivers an exotic mix of tangerine, pear, and nashi, underscored by a distinct barrel-derived matchstick complexity. The palate is impressively textured due to barrel fermentation in old French oak, offering a "zip and zing" of acidity balanced by a gentle oiliness and notes of white blossom.
