95 Points - Gary Walsh
While Adelina are based in the Clare Valley, winemaker Col McBryde has several decades experience working with grape growers in McLaren Vale. When the opportunity arose to secure some high quality, certified organic grapes managed by Yangarra's Michael Lane and Peter Fraser, McBryde didn't have to think twice.
A welcome new addition to the Adelina line-up, the 2021 Adelina McLaren Vale Shiraz is still approachable and medium-bodied, however more forward, chewy, and dark fruited when compared to the savoury, spiced spectrum we often see from the Clare Valley reds. A stunning McLaren Vale Shiraz, this will attract plenty of admirers with this inaugural release from Adelina.
"95 Points. Yangarra Block 8, Kangarilla. Long maceration, a bit of whole bunch, 700 litre barrels, mainly old oak, with 25% new. Col McBryde one of the best winemakers in Australia, I reckon. Spicy, exotic, blueberry and boysenberry pie, nutty and floral. It’s medium to full-bodied, a great set of deep gravelly tannin and a distinct ‘liquid mineral’ feel to it, if that makes any sense, with cool acidity, and a ferrous and gently saline finish of excellent length, again those tannins really impressive, finishing off the wine beautifully. And what value! Tasted: Jun22 14.5% alc. $33 Screwcap Drink: 2023 - 2030"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
