Established in 2012, Bondar Wines is the vision of husband and wife team Andre Bondar and Selina Kelly, who are based out of the iconic Rayner vineyard in McLaren Vale. In a relatively short period of time Bondar has made a big impression on the Australian wine scene, including being named James Halliday's 'Best New Winery' in his 2017 Australian Wine Companion.
Always a hugely popular wine, the 2021 Bondar 'Junto' is a blend of Grenache (73%), Shiraz (13%), Mataro (12%) and Carignan (2%). All grapes were hand-picked from old vineyards throughout McLaren Vale, gently handled in the winery and aged in old French oak.
The blend is put together with the idea that Grenache is the hero, with Shiraz adding supporting flesh and the Mataro spice, structure and tannin. Another brilliant rendition of this classic blend, this is a vibrant, fresh red wine with plenty of personality, and a wonderful level of drinkability.
"93 Points. This blend is really shaped by the fleshy and fruit-focused grenache component, the other grapes adding complexity around the central core of raspberries and blueberries. Youthful and spicy with a delicious, succulent edge to the finish. A blend of 73% grenache, 13% shiraz, 12% mataro and 2% carignan. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - Nick Stock, jamessuckling.com.
