The Castelli wines are produced from grapes sourced from the finest single vineyards throughout Western Australia's Great Southern region. Over the past decade, Castelli has established itself as a star of this cool climate winemaking area - consistently producing stunning examples of the region's hero varietals.
The 2023 Castelli Pemberton Chardonnay is another impressive of Great Southern Chardonnay. There is an array of aromatics of cumquat, grapefruit with some underlying toasted hazelnuts emanating from the glass. 100% barrel fermentation in French oak provides a lovely textural component and nuances of gunflint and creamy richness. The finely woven palate with a precise mineral core shows great length and focus and will suit cellaring over the next 8-10 years.
"93 Points. Fruit from Albany, Denmark and Mount Barker, fermented in oak for eight months, one month in stainless steel with weekly lees stirring. Peaches, lemon balm and pineapple rings. Golden delicious apples, Gardenia blooms and honeycomb. Candied ginger and nutmeg. Gorgeously ripe but with savoury notes of puff pastry, anzac biscuits and charred sourdough. Acidity lingers around an almond buttercream mouthfeel. Buttered popcorn, vanilla and caramel finishes. This is steadfast in its weighty frame but with lovely lifts of florals and perfume. A lot of wine for your money here. Drink now and will cellar for 3-6 years. A good chicken pie and you are in comfort food heaven. $37. Drink: 2024 - 2030"- Shanteh Wale, winepilot.com
