Gold Medal | 96 Points - Decanter World Wine Awards
Chaffey Bros is a 'new wave' Barossa producer founded in 2008 by brothers-in-law Daniel Chaffey Hartwig and Theo Engela. Blending the roles of "historians and mad scientists," they craft minimal-intervention, site-specific wines from the Barossa and Eden Valleys. Their approach focuses on texture and aromatics, with their wines continuing to attract plenty of admirers.
The 2023 vintage of Battle for Barossa La Résistance is a masterclass in the classic Barossa blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. This latest vintage was recently awarded a 96-point Gold Medal and crowned the world's best GSM at the
Decanter World Wine Awards.
Sourced from gnarly old vines, it leads with vibrant raspberry, strawberry and dark cherry, supported by elegant Syrah spice and a savoury graphite undertone from the Mourvèdre. Nine months in seasoned French oak provides a lovely tannin grip and silky mouthfeel, resulting in a wine that is plush, energetic, and super drinkable.
"95+ Points. What a cracking grenache, shiraz and mourvédre blend! Medium crimson with vibrant raspberry, blackberry and blueberry aromas, with baking spices, peppercorn, graphite, dried citrus rind and purple florals. Juicy, dark and blue fruits on the palate with the most powdery of tannin clouds, bright acidity and a long draw of juicy, spicy fruit. It's just so damn easy to drink. Woah! 14.4% alc. Drink: 2025 - 2035. Screwcap"- Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion.
