Charles Melton Rose Of Virginia Rosé has been a long-time favourites of ours and one that is among the finest examples of Rosé produced in Australia. The 2024 vintage is made from a blend of Grenache, Cabernet, Shiraz and Riesling.
The 2024 Charles Melton Rose Of Virginia Rosé is another stunning example displaying its trademark depth and vitality in colour. Beautifully aromatic with a touch of musk, strawberry and Turkish delight, the palate is packed with red fruits, lively acid and balance that makes it ready to be enjoyed now.
"I cut my teeth drinking this stuff with my dodgy mates at Milk Beach in Sydney. A blend of grenache, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and riesling, it's a little dark in colour (think watered-down Ribena) and carries a little more oomph in the aromas and flavours, but that is sometimes what life dictates, and it's a cold stone classic. Raspberry, red cherry and red plum fruits, spice, pressed flowers and stone. With just a swell of texture and treading the ridgeline of off-dry, it's pretty darn delicious. 93 Points. Drink: 2025 - 2029. 12% alc. Screwcap"- Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion.
"Rosé lovers around Australia owe Charlie Melton a debt of gratitude. For years, most local roses were not worth the empty bottle they came in. Mawkish, sweet, unbalanced, unhappy wines that really failed to impress on any level. Just a few producers maintained the faith and Charlie was certainly one of them. This was always a serious Rosé, though that never impacted on it being utterly delicious. It is, of course, named after Charlie’s wife, Virginia, who is the rock that holds the entire operation together. The blend looks to Grenache, Shiraz and Cabernet from regions such as Krondorf and Eden Valley. The colour is close to a fire truck red with punchy aromatics to follow. No shrinking violets here. Red fruits, strawberries, florals, orange rinds and spices on the nose, while the palate offers a soft yet focused structure. There is fine acidity and a lingering finish, this will drink majestically for at least five to six years. A no-holes barred Rosé many will love. Drink now - 2030. 93 Points"- The Vintage Journal.
