95 Points - James Halliday
A standout winery of South Australia's Langhorne Creek, Lake Breeze has drawn plenty of well deserved acclaim of late, including being named 'Best Value Winery' in the 2022 Halliday Wine Companion.
Long considered one of Australia's most consistent Cabernet producers, the 2021 Lake Breeze Cabernet Sauvignon is another impressive release. Offering plenty of lifted black fruits and violet aromatics on this nose, the palate is flavour packed with loads of blackcurrants, chocolate and blueberry flavours. A wine of effortless power, with a silky texture and impressively long finish, this is again destined to be a hugely popular release.
"95 Points. From estate-grown vines with an average age of 45yo, vinified in small open fermenters for 8-12 days, mlf, finished in French oak on lees. Matured in French barriques (35% new, 65% second fill). Includes 6/3% malbec/petit verdot, blended with the cabernet at 15 months, bottled unfined after 20 months in oak. 1800 dozen bottles made. Extraordinary price for so much work and use of French oak. That oak is somewhat obvious, simply needing a year or two to pull in behind the cassis/ blackcurrant fruit. Already a high-quality wine with more in store. Drink: 2025 - 2040. Screwcap. 14% alc. $28"- James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au.
