96 Points - Philip Rich
Since the early 2000's, Medhurst Estate has been crafting some of the Yarra Valley's finest wines. With the sole objective of making the best wine possible, careful vineyard management ensures yields are low, averaging two tonnes per acre and providing intensely flavoured fruit.
Medhurst's Estate Chardonnay has been in superb recent form, and this 2024 vintage is another mouth-watering, cool-climate Chardonnay. This offers pristine, vibrant flavours of citrus, white peach and pear with a lovely mineral core. Well measured quality French oak supports the fruit, delivering complexity and subtle spice leading to an impressively long finish.
"Hand picked and whole-bunch pressed to puncheons, hogsheads and barriques (28% new) with partial mlf. A bright green gold. Finely tuned and restrained with aromas of just-ripened stone fruits, Meyer lemon and yellow grapefruit. The palate is gently fleshy, concentrated, tensile and very well balanced. I like, too, the touch of grip on the finish, auguring well for its future potential. Worth seeking out. Drink: 2025 - 2032. 12.8% alc. $50. Screw cap"- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion.
