95 Points - Ken Gargett
Moss Wood have an internationally recognised reputation for producing some of the finest examples of Cabernet outside of Bordeaux. Produced from estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot, Moss Wood's Amy's Blend always provides a wonderful entry-level offering from this esteemed producer.
The 2025 Moss Wood Amy's is Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon blended with small amounts of Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot. The result is a highly appealing red with generous fruit depth, an abundance of varietal blackcurrant, violets and red fruits, with the subtle oak playing a mere support role. A high-quality red wine from one of Australia's leading wineries, this is a wine of enormous appeal particularly at this price.
"95 Points. A classic Bordeaux Blend style from Margaret River, the wine is 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 8% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot. It is worth mentioning that if you really want to get your full wine geek on, no other winery in the country provides as much and as intricate detail about their wines as these guys do. Definitely worth checking out their website (you doubt me? You want to know the Baume of each of those varieties and the date on which they were each harvested, it is all there). Maturation was in French oak barriques, none of them new. Deep magenta with a plum rim, this is a really exciting wine and helps to confirm the reports of 2025 being something very special. Whilst one should be happy with what is to hand and not playing the ‘grass is greener’ card, if this wine is this good then Moss Wood’s Cabernet from the same vintage might be yet another tour de force. The nose here gives us aromas of chocolate, cassis, leather, truffles, tobacco leaves, aniseed and plums. The structure is seamless with immaculate balance and the wine is well focused with excellent length. It finishes with silky tannins. Still youthful and fresh, it surely has at least another dozen years ahead of it. And what incredible value. $46. Drink by: 2026-2038"- Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot.
"Blue and black fruit, raspberry jubes, roses and chocolate box, black olive and nori, light cedar oak and spice. It’s medium-bodied, quite supple in the tannin department, just a quiet grainy grip on offer here, a light glycerol feel lends a certain slipperiness, some savoury nutty flavour and milk chocolate, again the blue fruits with an iodine-laced finish of good length. A very nice drink. Quite approachable too. 93 Points"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
