95 Points - Angus Hughson
Moss Wood have an internationally recognised reputation for producing some of the finest examples of Cabernet outside of Bordeaux. Produced from estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot, Moss Wood's Amy's Blend always provides a wonderful entry-level offering from this esteemed producer.
The 2024 Moss Wood Amy's is Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon blended with small amounts of Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot. The result is a highly appealing red with generous fruit depth, an abundance of varietal blackcurrant, violets and red fruits, with the subtle oak playing a mere support role. A high-quality red wine from one of Australia's leading wineries, this is a wine of enormous appeal particularly at this price.
"95 Points. One of the better Amy’s, this is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (72%), Merlot (11%), Petit Verdot (9%) and Malbec (8%). Maturation was for sixteen months in French oak barriques, but the use of any new oak was avoided. Purple magenta in colour, the nose exhibits notes of black cherries, smoked meats, graphite, plums, soy, cassis and blackberries. There is focus and great length here, with a line of juicy acidity and fine tannins on the finish. The wine maintains its intensity for the full journey. The deft oak handling has really allowed the fruit to shine. A wine which will easily provide pleasure for the next ten to fifteen years. Really impressive stuff. Drink now - 2033."- Angus Hughson, The Vintage Journal.
"Calling all lovers of Bordeaux-style red blends. This is cabernet-driven wine from one of Margaret River’s best producers that offers an excellent each way bet: drink now or cellar for a decade or more. It is a blend of 72% cabernet with the remainder of the blend made up of merlot, malbec and petit verdot. A wine of impeccable balance with classic currant/berry/plum notes allied to violet, dark chocolate and cedary oak characters. There is impressive structure here, but also bright acid that aid immediate accessibility. Concentrated but beguiling"- Winsor Dobbin, Winsor's Choice.
