Planted in 1969, Moss Wood is an important, founding estate of the Margaret River wine region. Currently producing some of their finest wines ever, the Chardonnay is consistently rated one of the region's benchmarks.
The 2025 Moss Wood Chardonnay is another complex, impeccably structured and powerful rendition of Margaret River Chardonnay that follows in the footsteps of highly praised recent vintages. A wine that's already attracting plenty of interest, our tiny remaining stocks will be snapped up quickly.
"96 Points. To paraphrase a former Prime Minister, life is not meant to be fair. Otherwise, why would Margaret River have yet another compelling vintage of such quality, following on from the stellar 2023, although to be honest, it has been a very long time since the region had a vintage that wasn’t exceptional. If there is a complaint about 2025, it is that it is perhaps not as generous with its yields as the region often is. Anyway, what we have here is a Chardonnay of the very highest quality. Such a thing is not uncommon in the region, but that does not make it any less welcome and anyone with a case of this in the cellar is going to drink very well over the next dozen years. The grapes were whole bunch pressed and then, during fermentation, transferred to French oak barriques, 48% of which were new. The wine remained maturing in those barrels for the following year and a half. Straw gold, this is youthful but intense with notes of quince, rockmelon, grapefruit, lemon curd, peaches, almonds, oatmeal and even a hint of gunflint. Supple, luscious and quite gorgeously textured, the wine has amazing length. It might seem impossible, but it lifts even further on the palate. A stunning Margaret River Chardonnay which will continue to astonish over the next decade. Love this. $124. Drink by: 2026-2036"- Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot.
"96 Points. A most elegant and, at the same time, powerful chardonnay from a vintage which produced - well - elegance and power. Aromas of savoury lemon nuances with subtle butterscotch and marzipan character. The palate is texturally pleasing, with a deep and concentrated core that drives with urgency through to a very long finish. Lovely mix of stone fruit with savoury elements giving it layered complexity. Finishes with a dry, struck-match flintiness that completes an excellent wine."- Ray Jordan, rayjordanwine.com.au
"95+ Points. This is bold and opulent wine, as is usually the way with Moss Wood Chardonnay, but it’s corralled by tight grapefruity acidity and finishes with freshness and excellent length. I could probably leave it there if you know the wines, though I’ll add that there’s stone fruit, pine-lime and citrus, spicy cedar oak, a distinct aniseed perfume, something of glossy vanilla custard and cashew richness, and some flinty grip to texture. It’s a thoroughly impressive wine, flavourtown, but balanced and tight. Its best days are ahead of it. Tasted: Sep26. 14% alc. $124. Screwcap. Drink: 2027 - 2038+"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
