95 Points - Jeni Port
Firmly established as one of Australia's great Rieslings, the 2021 vintage of Pikes Traditionale Riesling represents the 37th release of this much loved wine. Packed with classic aromas of lime, lemon and fresh cut apple, this displays the clarity and purity found in only the finest Clare Valley Riesling.
The palate is fresh, bright and delicate; citrus fruit provides up front flavour while the mouth filling acidity kicks in at the end and sees it finish clean, dry and refreshing. Another delicious Clare Valley Riesling from the team at Pikes, which will be best enjoyed with seafood while the sun is shining.
"95 Points. A fab Clare vintage produces fab riesling, and Pikes has produced a belter. Citrus descriptors got a big workout with this wine from lemon drop and zest to lime cordial and grapefruit pith. They gathered on the bouquet, all lively and fresh. They worked with the wine’s acidity to provide real tension - that vibrancy we love to see in riesling - and juiciness, mouth-wateringly, so. But what I really loved about this wine was the fact that while you could see a long life ahead - as indeed classic Clare rieslings tend to enjoy - it was fully formed now and raring to go. You don’t normally see that in a riesling quite so young. It’s a star turn, all right."- Jeni Port, winepilot.com
"94 Points. Bright lime and apple aromas with a very fresh stance. Some white peach in the mix, too. The palate has a wealth of powerful lime and white-peach flavour with good depth and concentration. Impressive."- Nick Stock, Gourmet Traveller Magazine, December / November 2022.
"Pikes Traditional Riesling has a great ability to mix friendliness with quality. It often seems quite open and fruit ‘forward’ but it keeps its length intact, and its line. This 2021 release is a beauty; chalky and dry but ripped with citrus-driven fruit. It’s not excessively intense but it’s above-average in that regard. It’s delicious. It’s elegant. And its value speaks for itself. Rated: 93 Points Tasted: Sep21 11.5% alc. $26 Screwcap. Drink: 2021 - 2027"- Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.
