"Super star"- Mike Bennie
Place of Changing Winds is one of the most impressive new winemaking ventures to emerge for some time. Based at a single site in the Macedon Ranges of Victoria, Place of Changing Winds also produces some impressive Syrah from the Heathcote region along with Syrah and Marsanne from the Harcourt area.
The 2023 Place of Changing Winds Syrah No.2 is produced from a blend of Heathcote (66%) and Harcourt (34%) Syrah grapes. An impressive entry point into the stunning line-up of reds made by this producer, this receives the same high level of attention as their other wines, to deliver an aromatic, spicy and flavoured packed red wine.
"94 Points. A blend of Heathcote and Harcourt, the double H thing going on. Lots of whole bunches and Stockinger oak used. This feels like it nailed the brief. If you judged by colour you’d be at ten out of ten - ruby and purple with shimmering edges. Hello. The wine feels similar, red crunch, purple depth, mulberry and pomegranate with tart cherry and sweet spices with some distinct slate-like mineral quality in there too. Fine, very fine actually, grippy, granitic tannins ripple through the wine, tightening on a sluice of joyous fruit character with some brown spices speckled through. From the lighter year, this works very well, elegant, fine boned, a pinosity almost, though distinctly syrah of course too. Super star. Tasted: August 25. 13.3% alc. $43. Diam Drink: 2025 - 2035+"- Mike Bennie, The Wine Front.
