97 Points - James Halliday | RRP $45
Kym Teusner is one of the most highly regarded 'next generation' Barossa winemakers; producing wines with a wonderful balance of the natural power of old-vine Barossa and an appealing elegance and complexity. Teusner's Avatar has established itself as a benchmark example of the famous Barossa blend of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz.
The 2022 Teusner Avatar is another impressive release with the vine age of the Grenache and Mataro vines almost 100 years old. The Grenache delivers spice and bright red fruits, Mataro for savoury earthiness and depth, while a small amount of Shiraz add plump plum and rich black fruit. The 2022 release of Teusner Avatar is again in cracking form and offers sensational value at this discounted price.
"97 Points. A blend of old-vine grenache, mataro and shiraz; matured in used oak to throw all the focus on the fruits and their freshness, coupled with the second great vintage conditions in a row after ’21. Irresistible. $45. 14.5% alc. Drink: 2024 - 2032. Screwcap"- James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion 2025.
"96 Points. Deep ruby core to a purple rim. Ripe mulberry, teriyaki and crushed violets aromas build and lift from the glass. Medium to full bodied with a serious intensity of dark fruit in the core. Dark spices, crushed gravel and meaty hints are all melded into seamless package that flows incredibly long, thanks to powerful, yet finest of grain tannins that carry on for almost an eternity. Drink 2023 - 2038"- Stuart Knox, The Real Review.
