Description

Bannockburn Vineyards was established by the late Stuart Hooper in 1974; his vision was to create a vineyard which would produce Australian wine of a quality to emulate the great wines of France, in particular top-line Burgundies.

Bannockburn's 1314 range of wines have proved enormously popular over the past decade, with this 2024 Bannockburn 1314 Rosé the latest addition. This is made using estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Riesling and Merlot. The soils here are dense clay over limestone and, as is now the norm at Bannockburn, the vineyard is farmed with organic principles.

The wine immediately draws you in with enticing scents of red florals, sweet summer berries and a distinctive savoury edge. Fleshy and full, the textured palate is filled with crunchy fresh fruit, wet pebble and garrigue-like flavours; it is also focused and refined. An impressive opening salvo and so much fun to drink.

"93 Points. Dust and leaf notes ripple through blackcurrant bud, citrus, jubey raspberry and sweet spice. It’s a dry rosé with lots of spice and leaf notes but with a good core of juicy fruit too. Colour-wise it sits just on the pale or orange side of crimson; it’s a fair indicator of the dry-but-flavoursome-style of the wine. There’s a meaty/ bunchy/ Campari-esque side to this; it’s not dominant but it’s there. This would be great with food. 12.5% Alc, Drink 2024-2028"- Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
