Bannockburn Vineyards was established by the late Stuart Hooper in 1974; his vision was to create a vineyard which would produce Australian wine of a quality to emulate the great wines of France, in particular top-line Burgundies. Bannockburn continues to realise Hooper's vision under winemaker Matthew Holmes who commenced making wine at Bannockburn in 2015.
Bannockburn consistently deliver some of the Geelong region's finest Shiraz, which is drawn predominately from vines in the south-facing Winery Block (planted in 1990) and some declassified De La Roche (planted in 2007). All sites possess soils of mainly volcanic scoria over basalt, clay and loam with a limestone clay base.
A cool 2021 season in our region has offered up a fragrant expression of medium bodied cool climate Shiraz. Red fruits, olives, black pepper and spice aromatics. A fine structure and tannin profile, and a cleansing finish of good persistence. Another complex offering from Bannockburn, this opens with bright red fruit, olives, pepper and spice aromatics. The palate delivers impressive structure with a fine tannin supporting dark fruits and spice, with a complex, long finish.
