95 Points - Marcus Ellis
Yangarra Estate is a biodynamic wine producer based in South Australia's McLaren Vale region. The Yangarra philosophy centres around producing wines solely from its single-vineyard estate and the property is devoted to the best grape varieties of the southern Rhone.
Following in the footsteps of hugely popular recent vintages of this wine, the 2022 Yangarra McLaren Vale Shiraz is another impressive red wine offering. The palate offers plenty of blueberries, dark fruits and dark chocolate flavours with well measured oak and subtle spice. Ready to be enjoyed now this is likely to only improve with a few years in the cellar.
"95 Points. From six estate blocks, split between ironstone and sand, destemmed with half left as whole berries; élevage in French puncheons, with 25% new and the remainder 1-3-year-old oak. This is remarkably pretty upfront, bursting with red berries and cherries, underneath a bedrock of ferrous minerality - the split of soils writ large - along with baking spices and rosy florals. Trademark Yangarra tannins kick in swiftly and carry the flavours long through a savoury finish. This is charming, but it’s also built for food. Seems like a very fine year for shiraz at this address. $45. Drink: 2024 - 2030. Screwcap"- Marcus Ellis, Halliday Wine Companion.
