95 Points - James Halliday | RRP $38
Domaine A is one of Tasmania's most acclaimed wineries, and custodians of the oldest vineyard in the historic Coal River Valley in southern Tasmania. In March 2020, Domaine A was purchased by Mona creator David Walsh after former proprietors Peter and Ruth Althaus chose to retire to Switzerland. Domaine A now runs alongside Moorilla winery situated on-site at Walsh's Mona, and continues under the custodianship of Moorilla winemaker Conor van der Reest.
This 2018 Domaine A Stoney Vineyard Pinot Noir a slightly more savoury, intense take on Tassie Pinot. Sour cherry, vanilla and smoked charcuterie lead the nose, with the cherry carrying through to the palate with plenty of strawberry, redcurrant and cranberry flavours supported by subtle spice and tannin. A beautifully savoury and poised Tasmanian Pinot Noir, this delivers great value drinking at this price.
