TarraWarra Estate has some of the oldest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines in the Yarra Valley and has firmly established itself as one of the region's star producers. Creating wines with a minimal intervention, the quality of wines continues to soar under the winemaking of Sarah Fagan.
The Reserve wines reflect the heritage of the single Estate philosophy at TarraWarra, with the first vintage in 1986. The wines represent the best sites from the Estate’s vineyards and are noted for their balance and longevity.
The 2020 TarraWarra's Reserve Pinot Noir opens with notes of poached strawberries, dried flowers, and a touch of amaro. On the palate, it reveals notes of leather, cherry, aniseed, and savoury mushrooms. Further glazed Cherry, game and wood smoke with fresh red fruits and spice. A silky texture with strawberries and cream flows effortlessly into a long finish on this Yarra Valley Pinot Noir of great finesse.
"93 Points. Made from estate fruit from 2 vineyards (33 and 38 years old) and 2 clones (MV6 & D5V12). All destemmed fruit, fermented in foudres and matured in a combination of French puncheons and barriques (25% new) for 11 months. A bright medium crimson. A little reduction followed by redcurrants, plum and some charry oak. Tightly wound on the palate, there is good depth and freshness here and the tannins are ripe and fine. Give this another 6-12 months to really hit it straps. $70. 13.5% alc. Drink: 2022 - 2028. Screw cap"- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion.
