The project of winemaker Scott Ireland, Provenance Wines set out to make great wines that reveal the fruit quality of special vineyards. Based in the Geelong region, Ireland works with select vineyard sites west and south of Melbourne, to deliver an impressive range of wines.
Made from grapes sourced throughout the cool-climate premium regions of Ballarat, Henty and Geelong, the 2023 Provenance Golden Plains Chardonnay is a classy example with lovely aromas of white flower, stonefruit and subtle cashew. The palate is well weighted and lively, with layers of intense fruit balanced by vibrant acidity, with a well rounded mouthfeel and chalky texture rounding out a beautifully balanced wine.
"94 Points. The even flow of flavour, the balance, the unmistakable character of chardonnay. There aren’t too many sub $40 wines that would beat this for quality. It tastes of nectarine, honeycomb, grilled peach, grapefruit and citrus, with cedarwod notes lending a hand. At every step it feels pure but then it also feels charismatic. We’re really onto something here. $37, 13.2% alcohol, screwcap, South-west Victoria"- Campbell Mattinson, campbellmattinson.com.
