Top Gold - Royal Hobart Wine Show 2024
Having grown the variety since the late 1880's, Bleasdale have a long-held reputation as Australia's leading Malbec makers. Originally used for brandy and fortified wines, when Bleasdale's focus shifted to making table wines in the 1960's, their first red wine was a single-varietal Malbec.
This 2023 Bleasdale Second Innings Malbec is already drawing high praise, including a glowing 95 point review from Jane Faulkner in the latest Halliday Wine Companion. This has also been a dominant performer on the wine show circuit, picking up Top Gold at both the Melbourne Royal Wine Awards and the Royal Hobart Wine Show in 2024.
Another super impressive Malbec offering from Bleasdale, this offers plenty of vibrant primary fruit flavours of plums, red berries and pepper spice. A plush, juicy red with velvety smooth tannins, this offers super value drinking at this price.
"95 Points. Malbec this good at this price, really, it doesn’t get any better. Although if Bleasdale doesn’t do great malbec, then no one does. At first, it appears all upfront fruit - black and satsuma plums, blackcurrants - but then savoury notes come through all spiced to the max with pepper, sumac and licorice, some roasted red capsicum, too. There are plentiful tannins, ripe and stretchy across the fuller-bodied palate, and it finishes convincingly. Distinctively and pleasingly varietal as much as an imprint of place and producer. $22. 13.5% alc. Drink: 2025 - 2033. Screwcap"- Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion 2026.
