Castle Rock is one of the stars of Western Australia's Great Southern region. The high altitude and exposure to south-east breezes results in a prolonged growing season and grapes of exceptional flavour intensity.
Made by the highly acclaimed Rob Diletti, the 2021 Castle Rock Estate Shiraz is produced from grapes grown in the Porongurup sub region of Great Southern. A classic cool-climate Shiraz opening with lovely aromas of plums, liquorice, spice and black pepper. A savoury and balanced palate, filled with plum fruit, black olive and a thread of black pepper spice woven through. This wine provides power and drive yet, wonderful restraint thanks to a bright acid backbone balanced by firm structural tannins. Another impressive Great Southern Shiraz from Castle Rock, this will provide plenty of enjoyment over the next decade.
"93 Points. Medium weighted, silky in texture (with a little grip), very perfumed, loaded with spice and defined by raspberry and red cherry fruits while generally acing it as a very appealing shiraz. It feels quite cool yet layers in dark, woody spices, shows some crushed rock elements in scents and tannin profile and finishes in a building pucker from its initial modest juiciness. If you like savoury, compact and succulent shiraz, this is a very good rendition. 14% alc. Screwcap. Drink: 2023 - 2032"- Mike Bennie, The Wine Front.
