96 Points - James Halliday | Last Stocks
Located in the Wilyabrup sub-region of Margaret River, Fraser Gallop continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the region's finest wineries. Unashamedly inspired by the great red wines of Bordeaux, Fraser Gallop's focus on it's Cabernet blends is delivering some impressive results.
The 2019 Fraser Gallop Parterre Cabernet is another brilliant example of this Bordeaux-style regional hero. A lovely approachable, medium-bodied wine with a succulent fleshy mid-palate with flavours of blackberry, red currants and hints of bay leaf and lapsang tea. Layers of flavours are on offer, all delivered with restrained elegance and finesse, making this one of Margaret River's finest Cabernets.
"96 Points. 85/8/5/2% cabernet sauvignon (Houghton clone)/malbec/petit verdot/cabernet franc. Matured for 18 months in French oak. The mention of Houghton clone in Wilyabrup is important, for the particular way that it expresses itself: supple, succulent, red fruited and powerful; it imbues the wines with grace and ease. So too, this release. This has all these attributes, layers of pomegranate, raspberry, red licorice, salt bush, cassis and peppercorn. A beautiful wine, with a proven track record for graceful ageing. This vintage will be no exception."- James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au.
"94 Points. Always a good wine, is Parterre. Red berries, seaweed and bay leaf, a little chocolate richness, and spicy fruit biscuits. Ripe, blackberry and red fruits, some tobacco, roast red capsicum and mint and cocoa powder, supple yet grainy tannin, baking spice and a slightly dry tannin grip on a long finish. A little bit of chew, and perhaps slightly baked in flavour profile, but very good. Tasted: Nov22 14% alc. $50 Screwcap Drink: 2023 - 2030+"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
