John Vickery is the acknowledged as an old master of Australian Riesling, with an illustrious career spanning over fifty years. The Rieslings he crafts from both Watervale (Clare Valley) and Eden Valley (Barossa), consistently rate among the finest produced in Australia.
The 2021 Vickery Watervale Riesling is another brilliant Clare Valley Riesling from a standout vintage in Clare Valley. The nose is bursting with aromas of apple, citrus and blossom, with a subtle touch of fennel spice and nectarine. The flavour-packed palate is bright and zesty, with beautifully balanced natural acid, full ripeness and intense flavours of stone fruit and lemon curd. Another delicious Watervale Riesling from Vickery.
"96 Points. The Vickery range of four rieslings is named after riesling specialist John Vickery, now retired, but in his prime famous for the Leo Buring rieslings. Extraordinary value for money, this riesling has bright lemon pith, lime juice and verbena aromas and is fresh and zesty in the mouth, penetrating fruit flavour and a long-lingering and refreshingly dry finish. There’s a touch of richness to it which avoids austerity. It’s very much in keeping with John Vickery’s style. (Screwcap) 12% alc. Ageing: drink now to 12 years. Food: pan-fried flathead fillets with a squeeze of lemon juice"- Huon Hooke, The Real Review.
