Provenance, meaning place of origin, reflects the simple fact that great wines comes from great vineyards. For more than 18 years Scott Ireland has searched the southern and western Victorian regions of Geelong, Ballarat and Henty, seeking the best match of vineyard site to the best grape varieties. It is the distinctive fruit he works with that enables the crafting of balanced wines known for their silky, elegant power.
This 2022 Provenance Geelong Shiraz is made from Provenance's own Shiraz vineyard some 5 kms south of the township of Bannockburn. An attractive deep violet colour in the glass. Lifted fruit aromas of licorice, black olive and allspice speak of vineyard rather than the winemaker’s toolkit. When tasted, powerful fruit flavour matched to medium weight is cut with a fine textural tannin input. The long in flavour finish, is matched to fresh natural acidity that completes/balances the wine. An age-worthy and refined example of Geelong Shiraz.
