94 Points - Dave Brookes
Located high in Tasmania's Derwent Valley, the Meadowbank vineyard has long been considered as one of Tasmania's most important vineyards, having been a grower for some of the state's biggest names. Now under the winemaking of the highly credentialed Peter Dredge, Meadowbank continue to produce a stunning array of wines.
A wine that is fast gaining in popularity, the 2024 Meadowbank Gamay is made with minimal intervention to express the unique aspects of the vineyard. Unfined, unfiltered and preservative free, this is made in a drink-now style. A red-violet-almost-purple-hued beauty, full of crunchy green raspberry characters and a touch of spice - this wine is juicy, succulent and completely seductive.
"94 Points. A delicious gamay from Gerald Ellis's Meadowbank vineyard in the Derwent Valley, made by Peter Dredge. I'm all-in on Tasmanian gamay. I love it. Savoury, pure and beautifully weighted, it feels like it has been touched by the sea – all briny and rocky with savoury-edged red plum, cranberry and cherry fruits with some lovely exotic spice, pressed wildflower notes and light meaty nuance. So easy to drink with a bright cadence and plenty of spacious detail. It'll take a chill, too, if that's your thing (and that should be your thing).”- Dave Brookes, The Wine Companion
