96 Points - Nick Stock
In a relatively short period of time, Clos Clare has established itself as a benchmark Clare Valley Riesling makers. The 2021 Clos Clare Riesling is another superb release of Clos Clare Riesling bursting with plenty of typical lime and lemon flavours that is supported by vibrant acidity on a beautiful lineal structure. Should provide plenty of drinking pleasure over the next decade.
"96 Points. Attractively soft fragrance here with jasmine and lime, as well as apple blossom and a white-peach edge. The palate holds a very intense and focused feel with slick, juicy acidity and rich, concentrated fruit flesh. So long. Drink or hold. Screw cap."- Nick Stock, jamessuckling.com
"94+ Points. A good vintage for Clos Clare in 2021. Pretty and pure. I’m thinking white flowers, lime and white peach. It’s fresh, a fine powdery texture, pure cool acidity, very long and even, with a lemon barley and lime aftertaste. Nice. Tasted: Nov21 12% alc. $30 Screwcap Drink: 2021 - 2031+" - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
The Barry family bought this property in 1986 from Leo Buring in which the fruit from this vineyard went into making the benchmark Leonay wine. When the Warilto Homestead was sub-divided including a small 45 year old 5 acre parcel of the vineyard to Ian Saunders, clos Clare was born and is now proudly the wines of the Barry brothers.
The Hayes vineyard is situated in the Amaragh Valley north west of the Clare township and as planted in 1975. Originally dry bush grown vines they are now trellised and run with Bio-Dynamic practices since 2007.
