97 Points - Ray Jordan
Domaine Naturaliste is the personal venture of Bruce Dukes; a highly acclaimed winemaker with nearly three decades experience working with producers in Margaret River. One of several impressive Chardonnays currently made at Domaine Naturaliste, 'Artus' showcases the local Gin Gin Chardonnay clone to deliver a richer style (compared to their 'Purus' Chardonnay).
A wine with a wonderful recent record, the 2022 Domaine Naturaliste Artus Chardonnay is complex, textural with an unashamedly 'old-world' feel. Bursting with flavours of grapefruit, fresh nectarine, poached pear and a bright line of acidity, the quality French oak adds further complexity. Another sublime Margaret River Chardonnay from Domaine Naturaliste, this highly acclaimed release has plenty of appeal for the serious Chardonnay lover.
"97 Points. Adds another dimension to Dukes' Purus chardonnay. The aim is to capture the rich texture of this variety and express it with a deeply layered complexity, while retaining that keen fresh minerally thread. Savoury butterscotch and crème brulee swirl through an engaging palate defined by a keen acid and a little grapefruit to close. Just a beautiful wine. $59"- Ray Jordan, rayjordanwine.com.au.
"96 Points. This 2022 Chardonnay made 100% from the Gingin clone is a powerful and modern expression offering nectarine and mango aromas with a strong line of toasty oak, accented by chalky complexity. Long and sleek, it delivers abundant levels of flavour with a charming exotic lift, the creamy texture kept in check by fine acidity. Expressive and already drinking well but will build in the bottle. Drink: 2025 - 2035"- Angus Hughson, winepilot.com.
"95 Points. A touch of funk here, some smoky sulfides and toasty barrel derived character allied with nougat honey and toasted nuts. A wine of refinement and restraint as well as good depth of flavour, the refreshing acidity towing the flavour long through an extended finish."- Huon Hooke, The Real Review.
"94 Points. Powerful wine, and glossy, and buttery, cashew nut richness, toast. ginger and clove, with some struck match, pear and grapefruit. It’s a slippery viscous and powerful affair, toffee and grapefruit, mango richness, maybe a little bit brassy and bold, but saline and savoury to close, with a finish of fine length and chalky texture. Tasted: Feb24 13% alc. $62 Screwcap Drink: 2023 - 2030"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
