97 Points - Jane Faulkner | RRP $150
The name Penley Estate comes from the amalgamation of two pioneering South Australian wine families; the Penfolds and Tolleys. Born of a dream of three siblings in 1988, today Penley Estate is firmly entrenched as one of Coonawarra finest wineries.
Helios represents the flagship Cabernet Sauvignon produced at Penley Estate and the 2019 vintage is another wonderful example of what this region is capable of. Powerful yet still approachable, this offers loads of typical cassis, mulberry, licorice and violet flavours, which are supported quality French oak and silky fine tannin. A red wine of faultless finesse and complexity, this is a must-have for any Cabernet lover.
"97 Points. Despite the hefty 1.6kg bottle, this wine is anything but weighty. An excellent dark garnet hue, it's resplendent with pure cabernet aromas and flavours. A latent power and beauty at the same time, with exceptional tannins, long and finely chiselled. Cork. 14.5% alc. To 2044. $150"- Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion 2022.
