96 Points - Jeni Port
Shaw and Smith has firmly established itself as one of Australia's leading Sauvignon Blanc makers. The 2021 Shaw and Smith Sauvignon Blanc represents the 32nd vintage of this wine, which is once again an exceptional Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc.
Offering lively and aromatic notes of passionfruit, nashi pear, and lime, the palate is typically intense with plenty of fresh limey fruit, restrained tropical fruit notes and mouth watering acidity. The impressive purity and dry, balanced finish make this a standout example that is sure to be well-received by Shaw and Smith fans.
"96 Points. Hand-picked fruit, cool fermentation in stainless steel, maturation on lees and early bottling. A model of consistency over 32 vintages, Shaw + Smith Sauvignon Blanc continues to lead the way in 2021 with a combination of fruit intensity and a seeming lightness of being. It's told in 2 parts; the 1st is exuberant tropicals, citrus and herbal interplay, but it quickly moves into a state of serious intensity, filigree acidity and mealy texture. That lasting impression saturates the tastebuds and stays with you. $30. 12% alc. Drink by 2023. Screw cap" - Jeni Port, winecompanion.com.au.
"Even with this wine’s remarkable consistency over 30 years, it still shows vintage variation when coming from a cooler season such as the 2021, ripening slowly for heightened aromatics sitting somewhere between snow pea and citrus, including leaf, flower and fruit. The flavour senses bring all that together with peppery spice and a touch of sorrel, entertaining the palate with great, pithy grapefruit texture. In founder Martin Shaw’s words: “It’s as good a Sauvignon as we’ve put out in recent years. We’re thrilled.” And so they should be."- Tony Love, InDaily, July 2021.
"94 Points. A very strong vintage for this popular Adelaide Hills sauvignon, it sits in a deliciously ripe yet fresh zone and is bathed in peach, nectarine, green-mango and passion-fruit aromas and flavors. Delivered in straight-up, drinkable mode on release."- James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, June 2021.
