The 2022 Schist Rock Shiraz delivers everything that's made previous vintages so popular; vibrant juicy black fruit and chocolate flavours, subtle quality French oak influence, and the seemingly perfect balance between power and approachability. Another crowd-pleasing Schist Rock Shiraz that offers super value Barossa Shiraz drinking at this price.
"If Dom Torzi’s Riesling is one of the biggest steals in Australian wine, then this Shiraz is worth mentioning in the same breath. The Torzi Matthews Schist Rock Shiraz 2022 is in such great form too. Sourced from the family vineyard at Mt McKenzie. Eden Valley Shiraz from the outset. Plums, mushroom, leaf litter, and has a lovely dark berry sweet fruit intensity to it – midweight, savoury, yet plush and plump. It’s a bit light on tannins, which rounds it off, though that’s part of the appeal. An easily enjoyable, well-made Eden Valley Shiraz with presence for under $30. Best drinking: Good now, no hurry - it will be alive in a decade. 92/100. 14.5% alc. RRP: $28 Would I buy it?: Sure would"- Andrew Graham, https://ozwinereview.com.
"From 26 year old vines, 25% whole bunch, 10% new oak. It’s dark and rich and plump, all chocolate, fruit cake with cherries, dried mint and sage, a little spice, some custard powder. Ripe and fleshy, black olive and chocolate, maybe a little too thick and gluggy in texture, but no shortage of flavour, a little bit wheaty too, with a soft black fruited and bitter almond finish of solid length. Rated: 90 Points Tasted: Jun23 14.5% alc. $28 Screwcap Drink: 2023 - 2027"- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
