Limited Stocks | 96 Points - Philip Rich
Serrat is the family business of former Yering Station and current Yabby Lake winemaker Tom Carson and partner Nadege Suné. Serrat has 8,800 vines per hectare - more than four times the average density, however their vines carry only a few bunches each. Remarkably, it takes one vine to produce each bottle of Serrat wine; these are genuine, hand-crafted wines of the highest quality.
The 2022 Serrat Chardonnay is a rich, flavoursome example of Yarra Valley Chardonnay with impressive concentration and texture that gives it the approachability to be enjoyed young. Finishing with a remarkable length, this is another superb offering from the talented duo behind Serrat.
"96 Points. Mendoza clone, whole-bunch pressed, natural-yeast fermented and matured in seasoned 600L French oak, no mlf and 11 months on full solids. A bright green gold. White stone fruits, rockmelon, orange blossom, a hint of jasmine and very subtle oak can all be found in this very complex and subtle wine. On the palate, this has a gentle creaminess balanced by a crystalline acidity. A little more open and softer than last year's version but equally as good. 13.5% alc. Drink: 2022 - 2029. Screwcap"- Philip Rich, winecompanion.com.au.
"This wine is 100% from the Mendoza block of Chardonnay, which was planted in 2007. Natural barrel fermented with full solids in 500 and 600 litre French oak barrels and aged on lees for 11 months. Only addition to this wine is SO2. The 2022 has a complex and detailed array of aromas, citrus, melon, stone fruit and a hint of almond. It has a lovely struck match note adding complexity. It is very pure. The palate is beautifully textured with a creamy and rounded mouthfeel that gives its feel of approachability, but as it opens in the glass the underlying concentration and coiled mid palate unfurls and its true potential is realised. It is long, polished and intense."- Serrat Wines.
