96 Points - Jeni Port
Whistling Eagle has established itself as one of the stars of Victoria's Heathcote wine region, with their wines in high demand both in Australia and in major international markets. Representing their flagship wine, Whistling Eagle 'Eagles Blood' Shiraz is always highly sought-after and this latest release is already drawing plenty of acclaim.
Made with a minimal intervention approach using traditional methods and aged in French oak, the 2021 Whistling Eagle 'Eagles Blood' Shiraz is another stunning expression of Heathcote's ancient Cambrian soils and unique terroir. A striking bright purple colour in the glass, the palate features a generous array of blackberry, dark cherry and blueberry flavours with a touch of spice and well measured quality oak playing a support role. A wine of exceptional depth and balance, this latest release will be welcomed by the many fans of this wine.
"96 Points. An exceptional vintage shows Heathcote shiraz at its best. As ever, Eagles Blood delivers a wine with a strong sense of place, of Aussie bush scents, acacia, briar, bracken and mineral red earthiness against a core of sturdy, ripe black fruits, chocolate and spice. In the fuller-bodied style, but it carries it well with tannins laid out evenly. There is the kind of balance in place that encourages drinking now - which I would do - but with the potential for further ageing – which I would also do. 14.5% alc. $60. Drink: 2025 - 2039"- Jeni Port, Halliday Wine Companion.
