Dawson James is an impressive partnership between the experienced winemaker duo of Peter Dawson and Tim James. With grapes grown on the Meadowbank vineyard, approximately 60 kms northwest of Hobart, they continue to produce brilliant examples of cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The 2022 Dawson James Chardonnay is another pristine Tasmanian Chardonnay with lifted aromas of citrus peel, grapefruit with the complexity of struck flint and freshly baked pastry. Flavours are tightly wound with a core of sweet lemon curd, cream and cashew, finishing with lively long soft acidity. The relatively low alcohol, vibrant fruit intensity and natural acidity should ensure this has a long life ahead of it.
"96 Points. As a judge at last year's Tasmanian Wine Show, I gave a trophy to this wine. It's a cracker. Pure white peach, nectarine, lemon and grapefruit with subtle wisps of struck flint and hints of soft spice, grilled nuts, nougat, clover blossom, judicious vanillin oak, crème fraîche and sea breeze. Filigreed and wonderfully balanced. There's a slow ache of umami – like a flake of sea salt melting on the tongue - and a sapid, fine acidity that matches the fruit beautifully. So delicious.
