Nestled in Hahndorf in the heart of the cool-climate Adelaide Hills, Sidewood is the largest certified sustainable winery in the region. Wines are made at their state of the art winery by the highly acclaimed Darryl Catlin, who was previously a winemaker at Shaw and Smith.
The 2024 Sidewood Adelaide Hills Estate Chardonnay displays aromas of fresh stone fruit, citrus and cashew, supported by gentle toasty oak characters. The palate is fleshy and supple, enhanced by vibrant acidity and a subtle backdrop of minerality resulting in a long, mouth-watering finish. An incredibly adaptable wine that will complement a number of cuisines from Asian salads to roast pork or mushroom risotto.
"This surely must be one of the best value chardonnays of the region. The fruit is sourced from estate vineyards, and wild-yeast fermentation occurs in French oak, where it ages for nine months. Underripe white stone fruit, with apricot, grapefruit pith and lemon zest. It marches ahead on the palate, its threads of acidity carrying the weight of toasted almond, cashew, and Greek yoghurt. You'd be hard pressed to refuse a glass of this. Particularly at the price. 93 Points. 12.5% alc. Drink: 2025 - 2030. Screwcap"- Katrina Butler, Halliday Wine Companion.
"Sidewood’s multi-tiered Chardonnay portfolio is an impressive collection in anyone’s language, and the 2024 vintage is clearly a beauty if the response for more elite cousins, the Mappinga and Owen variations, are any marker, winning trophies hand over fist in this year’s wine show circuit. The Estate, sourced from several of Sidewood’s vineyards across different sectors of the Hills region, is set to a generous aroma/flavour profile: lightly roasted peach, almond cake, orange cream biscuit, with a smartly measured citrus seam underpinning its palate lines, flavours reverbing in the textured finish. A people friendly Chardonnay with plenty of vinous attraction. 93 Points"- Tony Love, Winepilot.com.
